Green Bay Packers Jordan Morgan Named Top Pick of 2024 NFL Draft
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers addressed one of their biggest needs heading into the 2024 NFL Draft when they selected Arizona’s Jordan Morgan with their first-round pick. It was such a big need because the team released long-time left tackle David Bakhtiari in a cap-saving move, while left guard Jon Runyan Jr. departed in free agency, signing a deal with the New York Giants.

That is a lot of experience and talent leaving the building that needs to be replaced. So, the Packers got to work adding talent and depth during the draft. They wasted little time, as their first-round pick was used on Arizona offensive tackle, Jordan Morgan.

There has been a lot of speculation about where Morgan could begin his NFL career. Some evaluators believe he would be better off moving inside to guard, while others think the transition to the league at tackle won’t be troublesome.

Those discussions are part of the reason that the Packers selected Morgan in the first place. They love versatile offensive linemen who can play at a high level anywhere in the trenches. The former Wildcat certainly fits that bill, and is why he was highlighted in a recent piece done by ESPN’s Matt Miller.

Miller put together an article of his favorite 2024 NFL Draft steals, fits and best picks. Coming in at No. 48 on that list was Green Bay’s selection of Jordan Morgan, he and the Packers are a natural fit for each other.

“Versatility up front is a key asset the Packers value when looking at offensive linemen. Morgan has it. A college left tackle, he has the agility to play guard and the footwork to be a very good one. We could see major changes on this line if Zach Tom moves to center. If that happens, Morgan may work into the lineup at right tackle or even guard during his rookie season if the Packers intend on moving him from his college position,” wrote Miller.

Morgan is likely going to compete with Rasheed Walker for the starting left tackle spot. If not there, the Packers could start him at right tackle, kicking Zach Tom inside where he is thought to have immense potential.

There will be a lot to figure out during the offseason in Green Bay when it comes to the offensive line alignment. Head coach Matt LaFleur and his staff are going to have the five best players on the field, and Jordan Morgan is likely to be among them.
